I am requesting a quote and technical feasibility review for a custom FSTN graphic LCD module. The specifications below are preliminary and provided for quotation purposes. Final confirmed drawings and dimensions will be provided prior to tooling.
Preliminary Target Specifications:
Viewing Area:
Approximately 66 mm × 30 mm (minor dimensional adjustments acceptable for cost optimization)
Resolution:
Approximately 100 × 30 active pixels (graphic area)
Approximately 10–20 indicator icons positioned above the main graphic area
Preferred implementation: Use a standard 128 × 32 graphic controller architecture and map the visible area within that structure. Icons/indicators may be mapped into unused dot rows of a 128 × 32 controller to simplify design.
Any unused rows or columns may remain electrically present but not visible.
Display Type:
FSTN, positive mode, reflective (no backlight)
Style: black/very dark blue segments on gray background (similar to JAZZ-BC-W)
Custom viewing angle (please advise available options such as 6 o’clock or 12 o’clock)
Interface:
SPI required
Parallel interface optional (please quote both if available)
Controller should preferably be compatible with common open-source libraries such as u8g2 (e.g., ST7565/ST7567 compatible or equivalent 128 × 32 controller)
Mechanical Requirements:
(COG area height) target ≤ 3 mm
Standard COG construction preferred
COG on top; viewing angle optimized for correct contrast in normal user orientation (similar to 6 o’clock angle with top COG)
COF is not required if COG height remains ≤ 3 mm
Custom FPC length (to be finalized; please advise tooling implications)
Electrical:
Software-controlled contrast via controller command (no external potentiometer required)
Low-power passive drive suitable for embedded MCU (ESP32-class)
Cost Optimization Preference:
Preference is given to solutions utilizing an existing 128 × 32 controller platform to minimize tooling (NRE) and unit cost. If minor dimensional or pixel adjustments improve cost efficiency, please advise recommended changes.
